Local Villages

There are many towns and villages in the local area, below you can find a brief description of some of the more popular;

Durcal

This is a thriving friendly market town with 6000 inhabitants, located on the eastern side of the Rio Durcal and at the foot of the Sierra de Durcal, with peaks of 3000 metres. It has thermal springs, a famous iron train bridge built by followers of Eifel (as in Paris) and a fantastic summer fiesta. It has its own park with an ice cream and cake parlour near by. There are several supermarkets and a variety of shops to meet all your requirements. The village has many plazas with terrace bars, restaurant and a discotheque.

El Padul

Competing with Durcal in size and location, this town of 5500 claims to be the richest in the Lecrin Valley, it has an attractive old town with a lovely church and a variety of shops, bars and restaurants. Granada is only 10 minutes away.

Lecrin (Talara)

This is a small village which shows signs of a Moorish influence. There are a few shops, garages, bars discotheques and bakeries

Cozvijar

This village is located on the Granada road with good access to the motorway. It has a few shops and bars.

Niguelas

This small village is situated at the foot of the Sierra mountain range overlooking a spectacular gorge with breathtaking views. There are several supermarkets, bars and a bakery which can be found near the church. On the outskirts of the village on the road towards Durcal is the restaurant Alqueria del los Lentos, a picturespue old water mill, which offers a friendly atmosphere with excellent food, a little more upscale than most other restaurants in the area. There are good walks from village, into the National Park.

Conchar

There is only one road into the village which is located at the foot of a dramatic gorge. It has a central plaza and church, surrounded by quaint small cottages. There are no shops here but traders bring goods by van each day.

Pinos del Valle

This is a small village set in beautiful countryside, high above the Beznar reservoir lake and overlooked by high hills. You can explore it with some delightful walks through olive and orange trees.

Saleres

There are local bakeries but no shops or bars, although traders do set up their stalls in the village. The church is a highlight in guide books as being worthy of a visit.

Restabel

This village has several bars and shops which can be found past the main square and town hall. There is also the remains of an Arab castle. The "Despensa del Valle" restaurant and tapas bar "Jovi" offer excellent food.
